Pokémon Wind and Waves release date estimate, gameplay, region, and more
Pokémon Wind and Waves is the tenth generation of the franchise, and here’s our best guess as to when it will be released.
Pokémon Wind & Waves isn’t just the next game - it represents the start of Generation 10, as well as being the first mainline Switch 2 exclusive, since Legends Z-A was on both consoles. If you’re excited to go on a tropical adventure when the game finally releases, here’s when to expect it.
Pokémon Wind & Waves release date
Pokémon Wind and Waves is set for release in 2027, and I expect it to launch in November that year. That’s fairly broad, but the details are light right now due to it only being revealed in a Pokémon Presents back in February 2026. However, considering many previous Pokémon mainline entries have launched in October or November, it would make sense for it to release during that period once again.
The only games in recent years that haven’t been released in those two months are Legends: Arceus and Pokopia, the latter being a non-mainline entry. Admittedly, Arceus was announced in early 2021, with a release just less than a year later - so, perhaps Wind & Waves will follow that pattern, too.
Pokémon Wind & Waves gameplay
Unsurprisingly, I expect the familiar catching ‘mon and battling it out for Pokémon Wind and Waves. While both Legends games took a more action-focused battling experience, Scarlet & Violet stuck with the formula, and it’s unclear as to whether Wind and Waves will continue with the changes Legends Z-A made or stick to the status quo.
Of course, a new region brings new Pokémon for the ever-growing Pokédex, something that will likely bring more cards to the Pokémon TCG. Currently, we know of the starters - Browt, the Grass-type; Pombon, the Fire-type; and Gecqua, the Water-type. Personally, I’m choosing the adorable Pombon, despite being a Water-type fanatic.
Pokémon Wind & Waves region
The region for Pokémon Wind & Waves hasn’t been named just yet. However, the reveal trailer highlighted lush tropical landscapes and a vast, beautiful ocean, inspired by Southeast Asia. Based on the design, it looks to be drawing inspiration from Indonesia, Malaysia, and other tropical-like islands.
Like many Pokémon games, the starters don’t really take inspiration from real-world places. So, we’re left to the design of the world itself as opposed to the revealed ‘mon we’ve seen.
