This beautiful new Umbreon Pokémon card is already stressing me out

An Umbreon Pokémon card promo is releasing for the 30th Anniversary, and it would make a great addition to my binder. If I can get it.

As far as Pokémon cards go, Umbreon represents everything I struggle with in the hobby. Every time a new Umbreon card releases, prices soar, products vanish from shelves, and collectors like me are left scrambling to keep up. Now, PokéBeach has revealed a stunning new Umbreon promo for its 30th anniversary celebrations, and I already know exactly what’s going to happen.

All eyes are, unsurprisingly, on the Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration set and for good reason - it’s a massive milestone for our favourite franchise. However, I’m equally excited for the extra products, with small collections offering unique and interesting promos to bait my nostalgia.

My hope is that I’ll get as many products as I can find, but in reality, I’d settle for a few packs with exciting promotional cards.

Not only because you don’t have to rely on the chase that all Pokémon sets typically offer, but because they’re usually exclusive. As a set ends its print run, these become even more elusive, so the earlier you can get your hands on promos, the easier it is to avoid the inevitable expense of buying them on the secondary market.

Umbreon and Espeon Pokémon cards from the Pokémon 30th Celebration Deck Box

If there’s any card I know will be expensive straight away, it’s these two Eeveelution promos. Shared by PokéBeach, the Pokémon 30th Celebration Premium Deck Set will give you two promos; Umbreon and Espeon. Not only do these artworks match each other, with a massive ‘30’ in the clouds, but they look stunning with an array of fireworks overlooking a city.

I want them. Desperately. The artwork is exactly the kind of thing that reminds me why I started collecting Pokémon cards in the first place. Unfortunately, the name “Umbreon” has become a warning sign for my wallet over the last few years. Umbreon VMAX Alt Art and Umbreon ex from Prismatic Evolutions are evidence enough of my concerns that I won't be able to afford them.

If you want to buy them yourself, they’ll reportedly be available in Japan for 6,200 yen, which is roughly £29 / $39. However, The Pokémon Company in Japan is instating a requirement for a government ID for Pokémon Center orders in the country, so getting one might be quite hard.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and secure the Premium Deck Set at retail. Maybe The Pokémon Company will print enough stock that collectors won’t have to fight scalpers and resellers. Or maybe this will become another Umbreon card that I spend years staring at through a screen instead of in my binder.

In any case, I will make sure to keep you informed about the Pokémon 30th Celebration set as it comes and eventually goes, so make sure to sign up to our Kanto Post newsletter for up-to-date information.
