A new Jirachi Pokémon card is coming with 30th Celebration, but I’m still wishing for an SIR

A new Jirachi ex card is joining Pokémon 30th Celebration, but I’m still hoping this isn’t the only version we’ll get.

Revealed during Japan’s Tanabata festival on Tuesday, 7th July, the Wish Pokémon Jirachi is receiving a fresh Pokémon card in the anniversary expansion. It’s a lovely addition, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that an SIR, or even an Illustration Rare, is waiting elsewhere in the set.

As Pokémon 30th Celebration pre-orders start to become the only thing on my mind, I’ve also been wondering about the full card list for the Pokémon TCG expansion. With the Classic Collection cards currently locked behind the 30th Celebration UPCs, there’s still plenty of room for surprises in the standard booster packs.

If there’s one thing I’m hopeful for, it’s the idea of a Jirachi ex SIR (or IR, I’m not fussy TPCi). Considering the reveal of the ex card arriving in the upcoming Pokémon set, my hopes aren’t completely unfounded - although there’s still nothing confirming an SIR is actually on the way.

Revealing an Illustration Rare alongside the standard ex would’ve been a perfect fit. Tanabata centres around wishes written on colourful paper and tied to bamboo branches, making it an almost perfect theme for the Wish Pokémon. Perhaps The Pokémon Company is keeping its cards close to its chest - excuse the pun.

You can see the English version of the card above. It’s an adorable piece of artwork illustrated by 5ban Graphics, and it’s also great because Jirachi seems to be one of the most underrated mythical Pokémon in the franchise. Snubbed like Cresselia, which as Darkrai’s opposite, really should’ve had a new SIR in the Pitch Black chase cards

The last time we got a Full Art Jirachi was as a Sword & Shield promo, and even then, the Pokémon has only had two cards through the entire S&V era, both of which are common. It’s about time the Gen 3 Pokémon got some more modern love. And a Jirachi ex SIR would have a good shot of becoming one of my favourite Mega Evolutions era cards.

Even if an SIR never arrives, it’s still nice to see Jirachi return in one of Pokémon’s biggest anniversary sets. But until the full card list is revealed, I’ll keep hoping there’s one more wish waiting to come true.
