This Charizard misprint may be the most desirable Pokémon card error in existence
Shadowless Charizard remains one of the Pokémon TCG’s rarest chases, but this misprint Pokémon card may be the ultimate prize.
If you get a vintage chase or a modern grail, chances are you’ve got some solid money in your hand. However, find that Pokémon card with a factory error on it, and with the right buyer, that could multiply by huge amounts. An Umbreon VMAX Alt Art with a miscut? Potentially hundreds of dollars more, but with the right buyer, this Shadowless Charizard could sell for an absurd amount of money.
For those living under a Geodude, the Shadowless Charizard is one of the most popular vintage cards in the Pokémon TCG. Not only is it an absolute classic, but it’s so valuable on the secondary market that collectors will recommend you grade it regardless of value. Even a low grade like a three will see a huge price increase over ungraded - that’s mainly due to it being a highly faked card, so the authentication matters.
If you read my recent feature on misprinted Pokémon card collectors on Wargamer, you’ll have an inkling of where this is going. While error chases aren’t sought after by the main community, those who follow the misprint niche will pay increasingly high amounts depending on the error and the card. One such case is this 1999 Charizard with a Holo Error, one that also holds an extremely high grade of a PSA 9.

Shared on the r/PokemonMisprints subreddit, this is a unique 1 of 1 error, according to the OP. Stored in a case that screams “steal me” in a James Bond movie, this is a fairly beautiful error - it’s a printing issue that appears or disappears depending on the angle. Certain colours appear partially missing from the ink layer
Because misprint value really relies on the correct buyer, this could easily become one of the most elusive and expensive Pokémon cards. I don’t imagine it’ll hit the same milestones as Logan Paul’s Pikachu or the various first tournament cards of the iconic yellow mouse, but Charizard is one of the most popular Pokémon ever. Shadowless Charizard remains a holy grail for many collectors, with an error that could see it potentially demand an extremely high price. It all depends on getting the right buyer’s eyes.
I always hope for a misprint to appear in my packs - mainly because I’ve never been lucky enough to get one. And I think that’s an interesting feeling to have. Most products you’d receive broken or damaged would make you demand a refund, and I’d feel the same way, typically, but Pokémon errors can look so amazing that I’d actually like to get a few in my collection. Maybe one day.
