The Palworld card game’s first expansion isn’t just full of beautiful looking cards - it’s also a huge test for what works with its debut set. Nothing can prove a set is good like its most desirable cards, and if you’re looking to discover the Palworld Dawn of Palpagos chase cards, we’ve got the best of the best here.
Admittedly, we’re going a little blind here. Since the Palworld Official Card Game is fresh off the printing press with the Dawn of Palpagos expansion, whether cards are chases for artwork or gameplay reasons is a bit up in the air. I’m going to do what I do best for this Palworld TCG set, and focus on artwork and rarity over gameplay mechanics.
8. Mounted Machine Gun (SP)
It’s a group of adorable Lamballs operating mounted machine guns. That contrast perfectly sums up Palworld’s identity, mixing cute creature collecting with complete chaos. It’s one of the funniest cards in the set and an easy collector favourite.
7. Relaxaurus - Hungry Gunner (SP)
Imagine a dinosaur holding two missile launchers with an explosive backdrop. That’s exactly what you get with Relaxarus - Hungry Gunner. Unlike the highest Palworld rarities of the set, which feel like they emulate the best chases across TCGs like Palworld, Relaxaurus’ debut SP showcases exactly why Palworld works as a memorable experience.
It’s bombastic in nature, ridiculous at its core, and exactly what I wanted from the initial set. While it’s not the main chase of the set, I really hope the next few expansions deliver SSPs that really hone in on what makes the survival game so utterly bizarre, yet incredible all the same. Rather than trying to look elegant, this card embraces everything ridiculous about Palworld.
6. Shadowbeak - Seed of Despair (SP)
Standing proud in front of the moon, head held high atop a mountain, Shadowbeak - Seed of Despair’s artwork is an instant classic. Both Shadowbeak and the background pair exceptionally well, with the Pal staring directly at the viewer with an intimidating presence. It’s mesmerising and dangerous, all at once.
Shadowbeak is one of my favourite Pals, both in-game and for the TCG, thanks to its mysterious lore that ties into whether it’s even a Pal or not. It’s a Dark element griffin-inspired creature, so thematically and design wise, it looks incredible. And it works so well in this form.
5. Suzaku - Hellfire Wings (SP)
This fiery bird delivers an overwhelming sea of red as it ignites the border of the card, with a background of purple lightning and destruction that only highlights Suzaku’s ability to survive. It pairs extremely well with the next card on our list, but Suzaku - Hellfire Wings easily earns its place among the set’s best SP cards.
4. Helzephyr - Wings of the Moonless Night (SSP)
My first SSP on this list, and kicking off the remainder of the rest of the highest Palworld TCG rarities, Helzephyr - Wings of the Moonless Night delivers a fury of purple lightning, capturing the awe of the Dark-element Pal, and delivering bolts of electricity from the depths of Hell.
Its hostility in the game is truly caught in this SSP’s artwork, as the dread of a crackling sphere of lightning is sent your way. The overwhelming purple is broken by streaks of bright blue, making it a memorable chase card.
3. Lyleen - Blessing of the Goddess (SSP)
Lyleen - Blessing of the Goddess exists as a testament to Palpagos’ nature, with the SSP card highlighting the Grass Pal under the shade of a large tree. What the artwork truly showcases is the sunlight cutting through the branches above, landing on Lyleen with a soft golden light.
While the background is filled with green hues that would typically keep the subject swallowed by the design, the beams of light act like a spotlight. Even if it’s not the chase card of the set, it’s certainly my favourite, and one I hope I get when I buy some booster boxes.
2. Chillet - Dragon Whisperer (SSP)
While raw power can be a big reason collectors want certain chase cards, cosy vibes are equally important. Chillet - Dragon Whisperer, much like Lyleen, recognises the beauty of Palpagos by having the Ice and Dragon Pal relaxing in the sun, basking in the sunlight with a beaming smile.
It’s beautifully simple, highlighting the fact that many of Palworld’s creatures are parts of the world, not simply made for fighting or working. Relaxing is just as important, and this captures an element of the world that the game itself can’t deliver as well.
1. Jormuntide Ignis - Savage Lava Dragon (SSP)
If the Pokémon TCG has taught me anything, it’s that dragons made of literal fire are a hot commodity. Imagine if the base set Charizard had awesome artwork? It would probably look like Jormuntide Ignis - Savage Lava Dragon, which I believe to be Dawn of Palpagos’ biggest chase card.
With a fiery border that shows Jormuntide’s effortless power in action, it captures the very spirit of what an SSP should be - gorgeous, raw artwork. The simple background allows Jormuntide to remain the focal point of the card, and for that reason, it captures anyone’s interest. This is the card you hope to find in your packs.
